CASE BINATE AL MONTE LAVATORE (TWIN HOUSES)

Built work, Formello, 2009-12

This design stages a sacred conversation between the architecture and the landscape. The architecture wordlessly tells the story of the landscape through lines that trace borders and frame figures. Large openings pierce the twin houses, so that one can gaze out and frame the shadows and horizons of the Roman countryside. The houses are made of concrete, three floors high with an L-shaped floor plan that allows them to be expanded over time. The roof of the houses is pierced by a large hole, and is covered in slabs of travertine.
