VUOTO PER PIENO (THE CAMPUS AND THE YARD)
International Design Competition
Organization: Università della Calabria
This pavilion, designed for associations of students, is located in the Università della Calabria academic campus, a linear sequence of buildings, shaped as cubes, designed by the Italian architect Vittorio Gregotti in the 1970s. The project’s aim is that of undermining the continuity of this sequence of cubes. The seriality of the grid is interrupted by an exception: the insertion of a gap, an excavation in the ground which shapes a quad, a blank space, encircled by offices. The building which houses the students’ unions protrudes on this empty space from above.
